Introvert? Take up space anyway.
You don't have to be an extrovert to build a strong personal brand. Introverts actually make incredible creators. They just need to stop trying to do it like everyone else.
Hey friend. đđż Welcome to another Monday.
How many times have you talked yourself out of starting something because youâre âtoo quietâ or ânot outgoing enoughâ? How many ideas have you shelved because you thought content creation was only for the extroverts who live for the spotlight?
Yeah, thatâs what I thought â so letâs chat through it.
TL;DR đ
How building a personal brand changed this introvertâs life
Whatâs meant for you wonât always be easy
Why introverts make better content creators than they think
You know that voice in your head that says youâre âtoo quietâ to be a content creator? It whispers to you that you need to be the loudest person in the room, always âon,â constantly networking, and thriving in chaos?
Yeah, that voice is full of BS.
Iâm an introvert. And as Iâve talked about many times before, thatâs how I got my start as a content creator â creating cozy content for other introverts to wrap around themselves like a warm blanket.
Before I got started, I honestly thought that being an introvert disqualified me from this whole content creation thing.
I had spent plenty of time in corporate, watching the extroverts light up rooms, make important connections, and continually climb the so-called âladderâ with what seemed like zero effort. At the same time, I needed three business days to recover from a single networking event. đ€Ł
So naturally, I thought, âWhy would content creation be any different than it is IRL?â
But hereâs what Iâve figured out: Introverts arenât lacking something extroverts have. Weâre just working with a completely different â and just as valuable â set of tools.
The introvert advantage I donât hear anyone talking about so Iâm going to say it
As it turns out, the things that come naturally to introverts are exactly what make content creation work:
Deep listening - We pick up on nuances in our audienceâs questions and feedback, which helps us understand what theyâre looking for
Intentional creation - Weâre drawn to making things with a clear purpose and spending energy on content that matters to us
Meaningful connection - We excel at one-on-one relationships â and those thoughtful DMs and personalized responses build community that lasts
Thoughtful communication - We instinctually take time to craft our message, which gives our content a certain polish and purpose
You already have these skills. The real challenge is believing theyâre enough in a world that typically rewards something completely different.
Building community on your own terms
Look, as an introvert, you can still show up online in ways that donât completely drain you.
You know whatâs crazy? Some of my best professional relationships started with a single thoughtful DM or email, and not solely from networking events where Iâm forcing small talk with strangers while secretly planning my escape route. (Even though Iâve made some great connections there, too!)
Creating real, genuine connections doesnât require you to work a room constantly. It just requires you to be genuine when you start those conversations, no matter the setting.
When it comes to fostering a relationship with your audience, it doesnât require posting seventeen times a day or responding to every single comment.
Your community just needs you to show up consistently with something that captures their attention. Maybe start with once every few days, and eventually once a day, which is the cadence Iâm currently in for Instagram and LinkedIn.
Whatever rhythm you can actually maintain without wanting to throw your phone into the ocean â thatâs your starting pace. Start there and adjust as you go.
The beautiful thing about being an introvert in the content world is that some of the best formats are literally built for us. Long-form writing? Newsletters? Podcasts where you can think through what youâre saying and edit out the ums?
These are all legitimate ways to build real visibility without having to perform 24/7.
Youâre actually showing up better for your community because youâre not constantly burnt out.
So if youâve been sitting on the sidelines thinking youâre not built for this â Iâm here to tell you that youâve got it backward. The content world needs what introverts bring.
Create from your quiet place, and trust your process. Remember, depth is your differentiator.
Just be authentically yourself, and your people will find you.
If youâre vibing with this newsletterâŠ
Every Wednesday, I answer the messy questions my followers send me â you know, the stuff you definitely canât ask HR.
In past issues, Iâve covered questions like:
đ€ My boss just ambushed me with a two-hour âcounseling sessionâ about complaints from years ago. What should I do?
đ« I have a team member who got promoted too early, and now Iâm cleaning up their mess. How do I handle this?
â My boss says I need to schmooze with clients over coffee, but I have no idea what to talk about. Help?
đȘ Good people keep leaving because of how leadership treats everyone. Do I stay or start looking?
$8/month (or $80/year) gets you honest answers about corporate politics, personal branding, content strategy, and navigating your career, whether or not youâre the loudest person in the room.
âŹïž Upgrade here.
(And as always, thank you so much for supporting my work! I couldnât do any of this without yâall.)
P.S. â
If youâre reading this thinking, âOkay, but HOW?â Hereâs where to start: Pick one platform and post once a week with something you actually care about. Build one genuine connection at a time. This strategy works because itâs sustainable, and sustainability beats hustle culture every single time.
Until next Monday â Iâll see you on May 18th!
